Lancaster Glass Company History
Lancaster Glass Company, Lancaster, Ohio (1908-1933).

This company was founded in 1908 by Lucian B. Martin and others. Martin had previously been a founder and first president of the Fostoria Glass Company and the Ohio Flint Glass Company and one of the founders of the Hocking Glass Company. He had just severed his connections with the latter company B a small irony, because in 1923 Lancaster was purchased by Hocking and was operated as a division for several years until 1933, when both companies were absorbed into the Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation. While Hocking concentrated on developing machine-made lines, Lancaster continued to manufacture colored blanks, many of which they decorated themselves. The Standard Glass Manufacturing Company, with factories at Bremen and Canal Winchester, Ohio. Standard was another division of Hocking, with its specialty being etchings and light cuttings. The same blanks and colors were used by all three companies. As parent, Hocking marketed the products of all three, often advertising them together, so the distinction between the three factories is indistinct at best.
