Etch has 2 birds facing a center urn filled with leaves or perhaps stylized flames. The birds might be classified as chickens or roosters. Gene Florence identified the etching as "Fancy Weathervane" and speculated that it might have been done by Lippincott on Standard blanks.
The book, "Lancaster Glass Company" by John P. Zastowney calls this Etch Phoenix because he believes the birds are Egyptian Phoenixes. The name, Roosters, appears to be an undocumented collector's name. Mr Zastowney says this etch is found on only 3 blanks and all of them are Lancaster. They are blank 1660/D for the 7 1/2 inch 3 toed bowl shown, 1660B for the 3 toed 8 1/2 inch plate shown and it is also found on the 7 1/2 inch 1830/7 3 toed tray which is not shown.
The design is very smooth to the touch making it appear to be more of a decal than an etching.
